Captains and Mates with Z-drive experience
Job Description
Commands tugboat to tow barges, and/or assist ships into and out of harbors, estuaries, straits, and sounds, Gulf of Mexico and International Waters. Commands workers on deck to rig towlines to barges or ship to be towed. Determines course towing speed on basis of specialized knowledge of local winds, weather, tides and current. Steers tugboat to push or pull barges to destination and to dock and undock ships, avoiding reefs, outlying shoals, and other hazards to shipping, utilizing navigation devices, like radar, sonic depth finder, compass and sextant & aids to navigation, for example lighthouses and buoys. Is required to hold license issued by U.S. Coast Guard.
License Requirements
- MMC, Merchant Marine Credentials
- 1600 Ton, or 500 Ton Ocean's, Mate/Master of Towing;
- Radar unlimited
- GMDSS
- Z-Drive/Tractor Tug experience preferred
