Manager, Ocean Operations - Pascagoula, Mississippi (Full Time)
Commensurate with Experience
Signet Maritime Corporation has an immediate opening for an Ocean Operations Manager located in our Corporate Headquarters or Pascagoula, Mississippi. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have a bachelor's degree, a USCG License and experience in the tug and towing industry. The ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced, priority changing environment is a necessity. The successful candidate will become an important team member, an essential and valued employee supporting Signet Maritime.
- Creates a safety culture throughout the organization;
- Provides operational and technical management oversight of all vessels;
- Issues and updates marine procedures and implements throughout entire fleet;
- Coordinates with employees, surveyors, inspectors and other parties to ensure the vessels comply with local, national, and international (SOLAS) rules, laws and regulations for vessels of limited tonnages (some <500 GT ITC) together with classification requirements;
- Provides approval for purchase of spares, stores, new equipment and services;
- Coordinates with accounting to ensure all operational aspects of invoices are properly billed;
- Assists Captains in the daily operations of the vessels and with crew management;
- Directs special projects by interacting with customer and outside vendors, performing cost analysis estimates, preparing schedules, and approving finished work and payments;
- Prepares employee performance appraisal reports;
- Recommends competency and licensing profiles for marine personnel to Human Resources;
- Participates in customer and business development meetings;
- Reviews department performance against performance measures; establishes initiatives to achieve goals and objectives;
- Oversees and monitors the effectiveness and quality of programs in achieving Company goals and standards; provides summaries of system effectiveness;
- Keeps current on industry standards, practices and methodologies, as well as regulatory marine requirements;
- Develops departmental standards, procedures, and systems;
- Acts as general liaison between office and seagoing personnel;
- Handles crew discipline and personnel claims in conjunction with Human Resources;
- Assists the President and Senior Managers as required;
- Assists President and Senior Managers in implementing policies and procedures by performing personnel functions such as hiring, interviewing, evaluating, and training, making recommendations for operational changes.
- Bachelor's degree from a highly accredited university is REQUIRED;
- Six (6) years Ocean Shipping or Tow Experience;
- Active USCG License;
- Four (4) year Nautical Science Bachelor of Science Degree from Maritime Academy.
